For the past few
years, Mike Miller and family had been brainstorming ideas of opening an
all-natural fruit and vegetable farm. In the spring of 2006 they decided to jump in
and start planting. Their vision has now become "Mike's Berries,
Vegetables & More!" But there is more to their vision than just
growing and selling produce.
Says Mike's son Doug, "We intend to spend the
first few seasons taking the pulse of the community to find out what people are
looking for. Our ultimate vision is that we want to go beyond the idea of
being a vegetable farm or a strawberry patch. We want to someday become an
attraction, a diversion from the hustle and bustle of everyday life."
Strawberries have been a part of the Miller family for generations. Mike's
father had a strawberry patch in Elyria and his grandchildren would help him
pick. Mike, retired, hopes to build a legacy that could remain in the family
for years.
All local members
of the family can be found helping out on the farm including Mike's son Doug and
daughter Tanya as well as their mother Carolyn. (Oldest son Michael lives
in Pennsylvania with his wife Michelle). Tanya's husband Art can
also be found working hard while Doug's wife Shannon takes on the marketing and
advertising duties. Mike's grandchildren Kaitlyn, Sam, Jake, Bella, Ashtin
and Maggie are always nearby to lend a helping hand picking berries or just
playing in the fresh, country air.
